oh weels. I found the trailer and a couple more clips from Babe in YT, but VOX won't let me add them or even search for them. something about "life being cruel sometimes". whatevs.
ahem. Babe is a tale of a little orphan pig who looks for and eventually finds his life's role. not as the centerpiece of a holiday dinner, he hopes.
cute. but there's been talking animals in movies before. but not like this one, where each animal lips were synchronized with the audio, even when dubbed in other-than-English languages. that's some serious effort.
another bit of trivia: Babe, the pig himself was played by 58 genuine Staffordshire piglets in various stages of development.
Babe the pig isn't the only one who speaks: everyone speaks, Ferdinand the paranoid duck, Fly, the sheperd dog who becomes a mother-of-sorts to Babe much to the displeasure of her mate Rex, the house cat, the sheep, the barn mice... they all have more lines than the laconic Farmer Hoggett and his wife ("the Boss" to the animals).
...
Horse:
The cat says they call it Christmas
Ferdinand the duck: Christmas!
Christmas dinner, yeah. Dinner means death. Death means carnage! Christmas
means carnage! [
flies away frantically]
Ferdinand the duck:
Christmas means carnage!
Ferdinand has figured out a way to escape such fate by taking over the rooster's role. thus, dawn at the Hoggett farm is greeted with a hearty series of quacks.
but what about Babe? what will he do?

make sure the kids of all your friends watch this movie. give it to them for Christmas. their parents will remember you when their kids refuse to eat bacon/porkchops/ham for at least a month.
The term "lemur" is derived from the Latin word lemures, meaning "spirits of the night" or "haunter". This likely refers to their large reflective eyes and the wailing cries of some species (the Indri in particular).
Lemurs are primates. There are five families of lemurs which contain 99 species and subspecies.
Quick facts:
- Lemurs live on the island of Madagascar as well as surrounding islands
- Lemurs range in size from 30 grams to 10 kg
- Before humans inhabited Madagascar, there were species of lemurs that weighed up to 240 kg
- Lemurs use their tails for communication as well as for balance when leaping between trees
- Lemurs have opposable thumbs
- Lemurs have a reflective layer over their retinas to enhance night vision
- Lemurs depend heavily on the sense of smell and have large nasal cavities and moist noses

Oh my....here are some videos of dogs greeting their masters who have been gone for months in Iraq or Afghanistan.
I am sobbing by the time I see this last one. Don't tell me that animals don't have "opinions" or "emotions". WOW.
Been busy with other stuff tonight and I just realized the time. I'll have to use my car post as my Nablo of the day. Back to quasi-theme posts tomorrow. By the way, there are still a few post suggestions given in a previous post that I can use, but feel free to throw more at me if you wish.
Given that this is Remembrance Day, let me leave you with this video from Veterans' Affairs Canada.
Hmmm, sorry, vox's video thingy isn't working. Please go here.
it is possible I'd seen stand-up before watching Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip, but if so, Richard made me forget about it. RPLotSS was one of the first shows that incorporated performance into stand-up
Richard covered a lot of ground in 80 minutes. a meditation on love, loss and the difference between men and women:
about his near-death from an explosion while freebasing cocaine. merciless
NOTE: I feel silly even mentioning this, but just in case. This is RICHARD FUCKING PRYOR peoples. offensive language is a given. do not listen at work or at grandma's house.
Him in recovery, crystals have been removed from his bladder, he'll probably get to come home tomorrow afternoon with drugs and the cone of shame.
Thanks for the thoughts.
HRTortie had a great night yesterday, being on FDaddy's lap all evening, sleeping on Mommy's electric blanket, and cuddling with me early this morning. I was under the covers with her, thinking about all the stuff I needed to do and worrying about TK, till I realized that I couldn't do anything about any of those things at that time, so the best cause of action was to go back to sleep petting the warm floofy purring tortie. The Zen of Floof got me another 4 hours' sleep.
Dad was at church this morning after seniors choir practice, and another man fell and knocked him over. He fell on his hip that was replaced eight years ago. They're at the hospital, and it appears the bone may be cracked, so he may have to have surgery again tomorrow.
Dad's a lot frailer than he was back in 2001 after his first hip surgery.
Please say a prayer for him and think good thoughts.
Thanks.
Update: Just talked to my sister, and they're waiting for the surgeon (busy day, I guess) to determine if surgery will be necessary. But he's not in too much pain, and he actually got into the hospital bed under his own steam, which is a good sign.
He actually answered the phone when I called the room, and he sounded pretty good. So here's hoping...
I'm putting it out here now...even though it's only November...
I mean if you can listen to Christmas music in Walmart in October...you will LOVE this!
